Promoting breast cancer awareness among women in Kenya
1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. In the 21st century, even with advanced technology, breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women worldwide (1). It can be found in men but it is very rare. It has been demonstrated that mammograms are one of the best methods to reduce late detection of breast cancer (5). Monthly self-breast examination is recommended (1).
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Kenyan women, and constitutes a major public health problem (17& 20 ). Women in African countries are twice as likely to die from cancer as women in high-income countries (14)
Barriers contributing to engagement with cancer services among women in Kenya and indeed women in low income countries have included fear, economic circumstances, healthcare access, geographic andsociocultural levels (11).
